Gregor Memedović is Media Manager of 2018

The Media Manager Award 2018 goes to Gregor Memedović, CEO of Next Media Group, Slovenia. He will receive the award at the SEMPL Media Trends Conference in Portorož.

On the 29th and 30th of November, the jubilee, the 20th SEMPL Media Trends Conference, will be held GH Bernardin in Portorož, Slovenia. For the fourth year in a row, the conference will recognise the media owner or media manager (CEO) who has made significant contribution and long-lasting impact on the media and communications industry. With the award Media Manager of 2018, the organisers emphasize the importance of the dynamic development of this industry in the country.
This year’s award goes to Gregor Memedović, CEO of Next Media Group, who has worked in the media industry for more than 20 years. His media career path began at AB media, one of the leading media buying agencies at the time. Next, he was a media analytics manager at Motomedia (later Adria Media) and then Brandmedia (later Pristop Media). In 2006, he decided to continue its career in the media. As Sales and Marketing Director, he laid the foundations for the development of Radio Center, and in 2009, as Marketing Director, joined TV3 owned by the Swedish Modern Times Group (MTG), which he later led as Managing Director. When the Swedish owners decided to withdraw from the Slovenian market in 2012, he founded the cable TV ad sales agency Comedia (now Cas Media), which today successfully represents well-established global TV brands such as Discovery, Animal Planet, E! – Entertainment, Travel Channel, Viasat History, Explorer and Nature. In the same year, Memedović took the role of regional director for South-Eastern Europe at Fox International Channels, and in addition to operating in Slovenia, Serbia, Bulgaria, the Baltic countries, Poland and Russia, he established the entire business strategy in Croatia. In 2016, he decided to return to Radio Center and completely overhauled its organisation and introduced Next Media Group, which unites the leading radio stations Hitradio Center, Rock Radio, and Radio Express. At the same time, the group positioned itself as a leading provider of instore radio in Slovenia and it is now responsible for the music streaming of Mercator, Petrol, Engrotuš and Lesnina. The biggest breakthrough occurred in the transformation Next Media’s radio stations into digital content providers through social media – Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

“In the last two years, we have redefined the entire concept of media operation under our umbrella, and this has started to deliver great results. I’m proud that the company is no longer just a radio, but much more. We are Next Media. Obviously, this was also recognised by media professionals, and I think that the award is recognition of the systematic and hard work of past years. But I would not succeed without the excellent team, so this award is more theirs than mine. Of course, I am very happy about the award, but at the same time I expect that it would contribute to even better results and further increase the reputation of the brands we manage,” said Memedović about the Media Manager Award.

The Media Manager of 2018 was selected by Toni Balažič, CEO of Panvita Group, Maja Oven, Head of Marketing and PR Communication at BTC, Dejan Turk, CEO of A1 Slovenia and Vipmobile Serbia, Peter Frankl, Managing Director of Časnik Finance, Media Manager of 2017, Marko Kolbl, CEO of Europlakat, Media Manager of 2016, and
Pavel Vrabec, Director General of Pro Plus, Media Manager of 2015.

Although it seems that the radio is living in the shadow of television and video, competition between radio stations is very high in Slovenia. Creating quality radio content, developing new programming formats, and understanding the listeners’ wishes is both intuitive and data task. For many years Gregor Memedović and his colleagues have been successful in creating outstanding radio programs and content. Not only in the core business, but also in marketing, promotion and ad sales of the programs and brands he manages. With his work, Gregor shows that he understands the future well and can be a role model to all colleagues in the media industry.

Gregor Memedović will receive the award at the ceremony in the end of the first day of the SEMPL conference, on Thursday, November 29, 2018, where the recipients of the awards for the best media strategies of the year Sempler will be known, and the TOP SEMPL Award “Future Media Star” will also be presented for the fourth consecutive year.
